Psychological Assessment Services

Psychological assessment can provide invaluable information about what diagnosis is appropriate for your symptoms, your cognitive strengths and weaknesses, or your general mental health and recommendations for the future. I work with each of my assessment clients in a holistic way to understand who you are as a person, not just your scores on tests. I am passionate about helping individuals uncover explanations for the struggles they are experiencing, which have sometimes gone on for years without an answer. When you complete psychological assessment with me, you will be provided with clarity about your situation, and resources for support moving forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will I receive a diagnosis at the end of assessment?

Depending on the type of assessment you have selected, you may receive a diagnosis after testing is completed (especially full psychological evaluations, abbreviated psychological evaluations, and ADHD evaluations). You may also receive an explanation of diagnoses that have been tested for and ruled out. I will work to guide you in understanding what any diagnosis means, what the implications are for your life, and what options and resources you have moving forward. It is always possible that testing will result in a conclusion you did not expect or want. It is always your right to agree or disagree with my conclusions, and to seek a second opinion if desired.

  • Can I use the results of a psychological evaluation to receive accommodations or special services for myself or my child?

Educational and therapeutic programs often use psychological testing reports to evaluate an individual’s need for accommodations or special services. I cannot guarantee that the report from your evaluation will qualify you for these benefits, as my conclusions are based on your test results and my clinical judgement, and the requirements of such organizations vary. However, if you have a specific resource in mind that you are trying to access, I will do my best to ensure that the content of testing matches the expectations of the relevant organization or context, so that you are able to provide the results for consideration when assessment is complete.

  • What kinds of tests do you use during a psychological assessment?

During assessment, you may receive tests of your cognitive abilities (e.g., IQ testing), your educational achievement, and various symptoms you have been experiencing. There may be interactive tests, standardized interviews, and self-report measures that you can fill out on your own. All the tests in your assessment battery will be evidence-based and chosen specifically for your needs and evaluation questions.
